Failure forms such as breakage during the use of galvanized steel wire rope not only bring serious economic losses to users, but also cause serious casualties. From the practical application point of view, the measures to improve the service life of galvanized steel wire rope include:

1. Galvanized steel wire rope raw materials and semi-finished products
    1) It is required that the surface of galvanized steel wire rope shall not have obvious defects such as scratches, folds, flashing and micro-cracks.
　　 2) The decarburized layer on the surface of the wire and steel wire is a weaker part, and its thickness is generally required to be no more than 1.5% of the diameter.
　　3) After the raw material (high-speed wire rod) is finished hot rolling and controlled cooling, the metallographic structure is mainly sorbite (volume fraction 85%), and the rest must be pearlite.
　　4) In order to ensure the corrosion resistance of galvanized galvanized steel wire rope, the commonly used protection method of rope-making steel wire is galvanized, and the commonly used method is electroplating.

2. Galvanized steel wire rope drawing process
　　1) When formulating the galvanized steel wire rope drawing process, the dimensional tolerance and ovality of the semi-finished steel wire must be carefully selected.
　　2) Reasonably select the pass compression rate, and adopt a multi-pass low compression rate process under the premise of meeting the production efficiency.
　　3) Ensure sufficient cooling and lubrication to prevent surface scratches and excessive temperature rise during drawing, which may cause plasticity to decrease.
　　4) There are certain requirements for the strength and chemical composition of different layers of galvanized steel wire rope. The carbon content of the outer steel wire should be slightly lower than that of the inner steel wire to make it have better toughness, and the manganese content can be slightly higher to increase the wear resistance and not be brittle.

3. Galvanized steel wire rope design control
　　1) Control the pay-off tension of the steel wires in the strands and the strands in the rope to make the residual stress reasonable distribution.
　　2) Minimize or control the friction between the steel wire and the rope strands when walking in the twisting equipment, so as to control the tension and ensure the surface quality.
　　3) Correctly design, process and use the pre-deformer properly. Otherwise, the contact pressure between the wires will be affected, which will cause changes in the stress balance, and also cause scratches on the surface of the wires or strands and increase surface defects.
　　4) Pre-tensioning. When the pre-tension is 40%-50% of the breaking force, it is good to improve its fatigue life, and the action time is more than 2h to obtain better results.
　　5) Post-processing. After twisting is completed, forging or compacting the galvanized steel wire rope can increase its fatigue life.

4. Use galvanized steel wire rope correctly
　　1) Pay attention to the material, hardness, groove shape and size and machining accuracy of the pulley used with galvanized steel wire rope.
　　2) Maintain good and correct lubrication.
　　3) Use within a reasonable temperature range.
　　4) Pay attention to the influence of environment and medium.
